Description
Ponmo Ijebu is a type of cowhide, commonly used in Nigerian cuisine, particularly in the Yoruba region. "Ponmo" (or "pomo") refers to cow skin that has been processed, usually through boiling, to become a delicacy. "Ijebu" refers to a town in the southwestern part of Nigeria, known for its unique style of preparing ponmo.
What makes Ponmo Ijebu special is its tough, chewy texture, which distinguishes it from other varieties of ponmo. It’s often used in soups, stews, and various local dishes. It’s widely consumed.
However, its nutritional value is often debated because it mainly consists of collagen with minimal protein content. Despite this, Ponmo Ijebu remains a popular ingredient due to its texture and the unique flavor it adds to dishes.
